Sixteen light projectors have been temporarily set up along a 64-metre stretch of the capital's St Andrew's Road.
The project's lighting consultant Valerio Maioli switched the projectors on in an event held earlier today.
The lights have a 3000 lux illumination rating, compared to around 100 lux for Singapore's standard street lights, and the average 50,000 lux of normal sunlight.
Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry S. Iswaran was impressed with the system.
"It seems pretty bright to me," he told the Straits Times. "Under these conditions I don't think visibility will be a problem for the drivers."
The 'digiflag' electronic sign-boards that will be used in place of normal flag marshals are also being demonstrated.
The lights will remain in place until the end of next week, being switched on from 7pm every night.
The Singapore race takes place on 28 September this year on a new street circuit in the city.
