The Fiat Yamaha rookie, who yesterday took a dominant pole position ahead of his home crowd, set a string of fast laps - the quickest being a 1:40.378 - that no one else got close to except at the end, when Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards managed to get within 0.020 seconds.
Before then, second best was the Spaniard's teammate Valentino Rossi, but his best time, 1:40.821 and fastest Bridgestone runner, was bettered at least seven times by Lorenzo.
Fourth fastest was Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden, ahead of the JiR Team Scot-run Honda of Andrea Dovizioso and the other works Honda of Dani Pedrosa, who will start the race from the second spot on the grid.
Loris Capirossi was seventh fastest with his Rizla Suzuki, ahead of reigning champion Casey Stoner, who is still struggling in eighth place after qualifying seventh with his Ducati Marlboro.
Honda Gresini's Shinya Nakano was ninth fastest ahead of Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen completing the top ten.
