Former double 250cc world champion Sito Pons has admitted that he is nervous about his son Axel's 125cc debut in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez this weekend.
The 15-year-old Spanish rookie will be riding with the Jack & Jones WRB squad on an Aprilia, and his father will be an apprehensive spectator on Sunday.
"I am more nervous for this weekend than I ever was as a rider, or a team manager," he said. "Now I know what my parents felt like."
Pons was 250cc world champion in 1988 and 1989 and ran the Honda Pons team in MotoGP until the end of the 2005 season.
He now runs the Pons Racing team in the World Series by Renault, and ran McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen to the title in 2004.
